Bernie Pháid & Cleek Shrey at Dingle Record Shop

Local musician Bernie Pháid has teamed up with the New York based fiddler Cleek Schrey to bring us a delightful mix of Appalachian and Irish music for Sessions from The Shop. There is vibrancy and warmth to this music and finely-tuned empathy, that is immediatetly apparent, between the musicians. Brought up in Virginia, Cleeks unique style is much sought after here in Ireland where he colaborates with such musicians as Iarla O’ Lionáird and Caoimhín O’ Raghallaigh. He recently visited Dingle for Féile na Bealtaine and he and Bernie were joined by the wonderful dancer Nic Gareiss for a couple of fantastic nights of music and dance. Togha ceoil, curtha i láthair le hanam agus le spioraid ag teacht chugainn ó Bhernie Pháid agus Cleek Schrey. Meascán de cheol Gaelach agus ceol Sléibhte na hApaláiseacha a ardóidh do chroí!

Dervish

Dervish at Dingle Record Shop

The latest podcasted session from the shop features one of Irelands premier traditional groups, Dervish. Formed in 1989 by a group of five musicians, Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin Mc Ginley, Brian Mc Donagh and Michael Holmes who came together to record an album of local music which was released as The Boys of Sligo. Inspired by the project they decided to develop this informal gathering into a working band under the name Dervish which was chosen as it related to any group of spiritual people who become enraptured by music. From the Great Wall of China to more recently being the first Irish band to perform at the greatest music festival in the world, "Rock in Rio" in front of an estimate audience of two hundred and forty thousand people, Dervish have come a long way in seventeen years. They recently dropped in to see Mazz at the Dingle record shop. A special thanks for our friends in Féile na Bealtaine for inviting Dervish to Dingle!
